Communications Internship.
Since January 2010, I have been a Communications Intern at Quantum Communications, a strategic PR/Marketing firm based in Harrisburg, PA. As an intern, I gained valuable experience in media relations, media pitching, marketing campaigns, event planning, news scanning, and outreach.
Media Relations.
I learned the importance of building a relationship with media outlets through my experience with journalism in college. At Quantum, I build media lists for specific regions and issues, send press releases, and follow up with media staff.
Media Pitching.
At Quantum, I send opinion editorials written by industry leaders and other public figures to certain media contact lists in order to gain earned media exposure.
Marketing Campaigns.
I have been involved with developing marketing campaigns with the Quantum team which have included TV, Radio, Print (direct mail), Web sites, and social media. I gained experience in updating a client's Web site and Facebook page with relevant and interesting information in order to increase followers.
Event Planning.
Quantum hosts a monthly policy briefing to keep local industry leaders and members of the community up to date on happenings in the Capitol. I reach out to a list of people to gain RSVPs and also assist in setting up, hosting, and tearing down the meetings.
Outreach.
When managing issues, I assist the team in reaching out by email and telephone to various contacts to inform them and promote issues.
I also utilized Constant Contact to send information by e-mail blast to certain contact lists.
News Scanning.
To keep the firm up to date concerning a client, I scan the news and compile clippings to share. I also research various issues for the firm.
